Count 17 rows down from beginning MR, mark with a stitch marker (I used pins as you can see in the below pictures).  Count 24 rows down from beginning MR, mark with a stitch marker. Stuff bottom of the piece firmly. 


Bend wire as shown below (wire should be a little longer than the total wingspan, bend should fit inside body without bulging out). Insert wire straight through the body, using the first stitch marker as a guide. Pack stuffing on top of the wire being sure that it is even and that the wire is compressed (this will stop the wire twisting from the weight of the wings).

Repeat above with the second set of wings. From here you will need to fold the wire in so you can continue to crochet around them. Stuff very firmly as you go.

Bend the ends of the wires so that they are slightly shorter than the length of each wing, cutting excess if needed. Secure ends with tape.

 

This photo shows a larger wing placed along side the body from top down, the top most wire of the body is on top of the wing to show that it has been trimmed to be as long as the wing with a bended loop at the end so that sharp end it safe.


Thread the wings onto the wires. Stitch the base of the wings in place (make sure there is a 2 stitch height gap between). Next, secure the wires to the top edge of the wings with yarn.

Feet

Row 1: MR 10 (10) (don’t pull closed)

Rows 2 - 6: sc around (10) (5 rows total)

Fold piece in half, chain 3, slip stitch into next stitch and one behind (see below)

Now working between front and back stitches: slip into next stitch, inc into next, chain 2, sc into base of chain, slip into next stitch, sc into last, chain 3, slip into base of chain, FO. Weave in ends. Make 2.

Pin the feet to the base of the body with a gap between as shown below. Stitch in place.

Lastly, create the face details by using reference images online. I traced an image onto felt and then cut it out before gluing the pieces in place.
