The body of azurill and the tail have been completed and are next to each other.

Now is a good time to add Azurill’s face to the body. I needle felted all details except the cheeks which are sewed on felt sheets. You could also use yarn, felt sheets cut to size or a Cricut machine.

The ears have been completed; the photo shows that the ears are stuffed semi firmly so they are still mostly flat, not like a ball.

Stuff the ears lightly, you want them to be only slightly puffed. Pin the ears onto the body and stitch in place.

The ears can be needle felted; to do so creat a circle of pins in the center of each ear and use the pins as a guide as to where to needle felt into.

I highly recommend needle felting for the pink inner ear- If you needle felt this area it will become convex and have a natural ear shape. Alternatively, you could use yarn or felt sheets. I created a guide with pins, needle felting along the pins and then filled in the rest. Finally, I added a thin black outline.

The face can also be needle felted or you can use felt sheets. The photo shows needle felted eyes with a wide gap between each eye and felt sheet cheek details below each eye.

Space the feet out as shown and pin in place. Stitch onto body when you are happy with placement.

The tail base piece is placed before the tail is placed at the base of Azurill's back

The edge is is shorter is the top. Pin the tail base to Azurill’s body. Stitch the tail base ¾'s along, stuff through the opening in such a way that the point where the tail goes into  sticks out prominently. Finish stitching the tail base onto the body and weave in any ends.

The photo shows Azurill tail base has been added and stuffed lightly.

Zig Zag Tail

Start with black yarn

The end you started at is the part that will attach to the body and the end point is the part that will attached the the tail end.

Photo shows the tail piece finished and threaded onto a coil of thick craft wire.

Carefully thread the tail onto craft wire (skip the wire if you want this to be a child safe toy). Take the tail end and bend the wire into a cork screw type shape and twist this into the tail end. Pin the crocheted outer part to the tail end.

The tail is threaded and the wire has been bent into a zig zag shape. The base the of the tail has shorter zig zags while the end piece has longer zig zags

The tail is pinned to the center of the tail base piece and pinned to the FO point of the tail ball piece, this is before it is stitched to secure in place.

Bend the wire as shown (or add a few stitches with yarn where the bends would be if you aren’t using wire); the bends get progressively bigger the closer the tail is to the body. Cut the wire to approx. 3cm longer than black crocheted outer part. Stick the wire into the tail base and pin in place. Stretch and move the wire until you are happy with it’s position. Stitch the tail on and weave in any ends.

The tail pieces have now been all stitched together. The photo shows that the wire is thick enough to stay in the zig zag shape and sists strongly between the tail and the body

The photo shows the finished Azurill outside in the sun. The body has been positioned so that Azurill is sitting on the ball tail
